Kumasi, Sept. 02, GNA – The Suame Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has constructed a modern police station at Maakro to enhance security and bring justice and security services closer to residents.

The facility, constructed under the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Frank Owusu Ansah, forms part of the Assembly’s legacy projects and was funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

The facility comprises a charge office, Station Officer’s office, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office, male and female cells, armoury and exhibit room.

It also has a task force office, motorcycle unit, conference room and washrooms.

Speaking at a ceremony to commission and hand over the facility to the Ghana Police Service, Mr. Owusu Ansah said the project was intended to strengthen security and improve access to justice and security services for residents of the municipality.

He said the safety and security of residents remained a key priority of the Assembly, particularly in its efforts to build a resilient local economy and improve living conditions.

“It is prudent to create a safer environment to promote business activities, which will help the Assembly generate the needed revenue to execute its development agenda for the benefit of the larger society,” he said.

The MCE also pledged to include the construction of an AstroTurf at Maakro in the Assembly’s development plans for 2026.

He said other projects being undertaken in the municipality included a classroom block at Kwapra and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Nkwantwima and Aboahia Kyereso.

Mr. Owusu Ansah expressed appreciation to the chiefs and traditional authorities for releasing land for the construction of the police station.

ACP Francis Kouami Somian, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who represented the Regional Commander, COP Osei Akoto Arthur, urged residents, particularly the youth, to cooperate with police personnel posted to the facility.

He said community cooperation was essential to enable the police to discharge their duties effectively and maintain peace and security.

ACP Somian commended the Assembly and the traditional authorities for their collaboration in providing the facility and assured the community that the Ghana Police Service would ensure its regular maintenance to promote its sustainability.
