Lawyer and political commentator Kwame Jantuah has called for greater private-sector participation in Ghana’s economy, arguing that businesses should be empowered to take charge of some areas currently placing a financial burden on the government.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Mr Jantuah said a stronger private sector would help ease the pressure on government while creating more opportunities for investment and economic growth.
His comments come amid concerns over losses recorded by some state institutions and renewed discussions about the efficiency and sustainability of government-led operations.
Mr Jantuah also urged President John Dramani Mahama to make Ghanaian businesses a key part of his international engagements.
Citing former German Chancellor Angela Merkel as an example, he suggested that President Mahama should consider travelling with Ghanaian business leaders when meeting foreign dignitaries and governments.
He said such engagements could help Ghanaian businesses establish international partnerships, attract investment, access new markets and create opportunities for industrial development.
Mr Jantuah said the government should focus on creating the right policy and economic environment while allowing capable private businesses to play a greater role in areas where they can deliver effectively.
“We should strengthen the private sector to take charge of some of these areas,” he said.
He stressed that a stronger partnership between government and the private sector would be essential to driving Ghana’s economic development.
