The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC Ghana) has congratulated Farida Iddriss on her election as Secretary-General of Africa Aquatics Zone II, describing her elevation as a significant achievement for Ghanaian sports administration and the Paralympic movement.

Iddriss was elected on Saturday, August 29, at an election in Dakar, Senegal, where delegates from 20 countries participated. Her new role places her at the centre of efforts to coordinate and advance aquatic sports across West and Central Africa.

The election adds another major responsibility to Iddriss’ growing profile in international aquatics administration. She is a member of the Governing Board of NPC Ghana and President of the Para Swimming Association of Ghana. She has also served on the World Aquatics Bureau since 2022 and previously held leadership positions within Africa Aquatics Zone II and at the continental level.

NPC Ghana President Samson Deen said Iddriss’s election was a proud moment for Ghana and recognition of her dedication, competence and contribution to sports development. He also commended her contribution to para swimming and her efforts to promote inclusion and opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

“Farida’s rise is more than a personal accomplishment; it is a victory for Ghana, for women in sport and for every aspiring sports administrator who believes that dedicated service can open doors beyond national borders,” Mr Deen said.

“Her elevation demonstrates that competence, integrity and service are recognised. It also confirms that Ghanaian sports administrators are capable of providing leadership and helping to shape the future of sport across Africa,” he said.

The NPC Ghana chief further expressed confidence that Iddriss would bring professionalism, innovation and an athlete-centred approach to her new responsibility while strengthening cooperation among member federations.

He assured her of NPC Ghana’s support as she works to strengthen technical development, athlete pathways and international opportunities across Zone II.

“At a time when African sport requires courageous, innovative and athlete-centred leadership, Ms Iddriss brings the experience, passion and sense of purpose needed to make a meaningful difference,” Mr Deen said.

“Ghana and the Paralympic Movement are proud of you,” he said.
