Tamale, Sept 01, GNA – Pastor Wayne James, Guest Preacher at GlobeServe Ministries International’s 30th anniversary, has urged Christians not to despise the gift of speaking in tongues.
He described the gift of speaking in tongues as an important manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.
Pastor James said this whilst delivering a sermon at a thanksgiving service in Tamale to mark the 30th anniversary of GlobeServe Ministries International.
He said believers needed the Holy Spirit to live victorious Christian lives, overcome challenges and make meaningful impact in their communities and the wider world.
Speaking on the topic: “Baptism with the Holy Spirit”, he said speaking in tongues could strengthen believers spiritually particularly during periods of discouragement and difficult circumstances.
The anniversary celebration was held under the theme: “Honouring our Past, Celebrating our Present, Believing for our Future”, and brought together hundreds of members and guests from Ghana and abroad.
Pastor James drew inspiration from the Gospel according to Mark 16:15 saying Christians had a responsibility to take the Gospel to the world and demonstrate the power of God through their lives.
He said the baptism of the Holy Spirit was essential for believers, who desired to effectively fulfil the Great Commission and contribute to the transformation of their communities.
He cautioned Christians against treating spiritual gifts including speaking in tongues with contempt and urged them to understand and embrace such gifts within the context of the work of the Holy Spirit.
He said “speaking in tongues is an antidote against discouragement and depression” encouraging believers to cultivate a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Pastor James further urged Christians to depend on the Holy Spirit for divine strength and guidance in overcoming spiritual challenges and remaining steadfast in their faith.
He said those who accepted Jesus Christ and were baptised were expected to demonstrate transformed lives through their actions, commitment to the Gospel and service to others.
He encouraged believers to embrace the gifts of the Holy Spirit and allow them to operate in their lives for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
Pastor James subsequently led the congregation in prayers for the impartation and manifestation of the Holy Spirit asking God to empower and renew their spiritual lives.
The thanksgiving service was characterised by vibrant worship, singing and dancing as members expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness throughout the ministry’s 30-year journey.
Members and guests also reflected on the growth and achievements of GlobeServe Ministries International and expressed confidence in its future.
The anniversary provided an opportunity for the Church to honour its past, celebrate its achievements, and reaffirm its commitment to faith, service, and the transformation of lives and communities.
