Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has backed Seyi Tinubu as a potential future president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), describing him as a young person who understands what Nigerians want.

Martins made the remarks while speaking on the ObiOne Podcast, where he discussed the need for younger leadership to help address the challenges facing Nigerian football.

“I think Seyi Tinubu can be the president of NFF. He’s young and understands what Nigerians want. He’s not the president yet, but he’s making an efforts,” Martins said.

The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward also called for a younger person who understands both football and the system to help improve the administration of the sport.

“We just need someone that can help. A young person that understands the game, and the system that can help us,” he said.

Martins added, “I think Seyi Tinubu can do that too. He’s young and understands what Nigerian people want. He can change that if he wants to.”

His comments come at a time of major uncertainty in Nigerian football administration. Ibrahim Gusau recently resigned as NFF president, while the proposed NFF election process has also been suspended as part of wider reforms in the country’s football administration.

The Federal Government has called for comprehensive reforms covering governance, administration, stakeholder representation, development pathways, domestic competitions and accountability within Nigerian football.

However, Martins’ comments represent his personal endorsement and do not mean that Seyi Tinubu has been appointed or confirmed as a candidate for the NFF presidency.
