Kenya Airways has been named Africa’s Leading Airline 2026, taking four major honors at the 2026 World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony held in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The national carrier also won Africa’s Leading Airline – Economy Class, while its Pride Lounge at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was named Africa’s Leading Airline Lounge.
Its in-flight publication, Msafiri Magazine, completed the four-award haul after being named Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine 2026.
The awards were presented during the gala ceremony in Zanzibar on Friday, August 28, marking another major recognition for Kenya Airways in the continental aviation industry.
Kenya Airways Beats Major African Rivals
Kenya Airways secured the overall airline award against competition from some of Africa’s major carriers.
The 2026 nominees included Ethiopian Airlines, EgyptAir, Royal Air Maroc, RwandAir, South African Airways, TAAG Angola Airlines, Tunisair and Air Algérie.
The latest win cements Kenya Airways’ position among the continent’s leading carriers after it also won Africa’s Leading Airline at the 2025 World Travel Awards.
In 2025, the airline additionally won the Business Class, Airline Brand and Inflight Magazine categories.

Kenya Airways also took the Africa’s Leading Airline – Economy Class 2026 award.
The airline had been nominated alongside Air Algérie, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, RwandAir, South African Airways, TAAG Angola Airlines and Tunisair.
The recognition adds to the carrier’s record in the category, with Kenya Airways securing the economy-class title for the sixth time.
Pride Lounge and Msafiri Also Win
Kenya Airways’ Pride Lounge at JKIA was named Africa’s Leading Airline Lounge 2026.
The lounge competed against EgyptAir’s Alioth Lounge in Cairo, Royal Air Maroc’s Le Zénith Lounge in Casablanca and South African Airways’ International Platinum Lounge in Johannesburg.
The airline’s Msafiri Magazine also won Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine 2026.
The publication had been nominated alongside inflight magazines from TAAG Angola Airlines, EgyptAir, LAM Mozambique Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and Ethiopian Airlines.
The latest win extends Msafiri’s run in the category to five consecutive victories.
Kenya also received recognition through Nairobi, which was named Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2026.
The win extends Nairobi’s run in the category to eight consecutive victories. The World Travel Awards’ records show that Nairobi won the award every year from 2019 through 2025 and was also among the nominees for the 2026 award.
The recognition places Nairobi among Africa’s established business and meetings destinations, competing in 2026 against cities including Accra, Cairo, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Kigali, Lagos and Pretoria.

Kenya Airways’ Growing Recognition
The latest awards add to Kenya Airways’ recent record at the World Travel Awards.
In 2025, the airline won four awards, including Africa’s Leading Airline, Africa’s Leading Airline – Business Class, Africa’s Leading Airline Brand and Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine.
For 2026, Kenya Airways had been nominated in six categories, including overall airline, Business Class, Economy Class, Airline Brand, Inflight Magazine and Lounge.
The four wins therefore represent recognition across several parts of the passenger experience the airline’s overall service, economy cabin, airport lounge and inflight publication.
The awards come as Kenya Airways continues efforts to strengthen its network, fleet and customer experience.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, recognize achievements across the global travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Winners are determined through voting involving travel professionals and consumers.
