A US State Department spokesperson said on Tuesday that the department had launched a global training initiative for consular staff and that visa appointments would be adjusted to accommodate the exercise.
The State Department did not provide a specific timeline for the training or indicate how long the adjustments would last.

For Ghanaians who have already scheduled US visa interviews, the development could mean that some appointments may be rescheduled.

The State Department said the training is intended to help consular officers conduct more comprehensive and consistent assessments of visa applicants.
It said the exercise would also strengthen officers’ ability to identify applicants who may become dependent on US public benefits.
The development comes amid a broader immigration crackdown under President Trump, who has pursued tougher measures targeting both illegal and legal immigration during his second term.
The administration has revoked visas and green cards in some cases and has rejected applications on a range of grounds, including concerns over applicants’ activities and political views.
Trump has defended the measures as necessary to strengthen US national security and immigration enforcement.
However, the administration’s immigration policies have faced legal challenges. A US judge recently struck down a policy that suspended the issuance of immigrant visas to applicants from 75 countries, ruling that the policy exceeded the statutory authority of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
