Ghanaian winger Marcel Opoku says his football journey began on the streets of Ghana, where he developed the creativity and freedom that continue to influence his game.

The 24-year-old has now moved to Swedish Division One side Assyriska FF on a one-year contract with an option to extend, following his spell with Spanish fourth-tier side RCD Ricla.

Opoku says his development has been shaped by experiences in three different football environments, starting in Ghana before moving to England and later Spain.

“It became a combination of street football instinct, English tactical sharpness and Spanish technical finesse that shaped me into the player I am today,” Opoku said.

The winger believes his intelligence, technical ability and unpredictability make him difficult for defenders to handle.

“Opponents know that I can create something out of nothing if I’m given time and space out on the wing, while my teammates know they can trust me to create chances and break down defensive lines under pressure,” he said.

Opoku also prides himself on being able to use both feet and shoot from distance.

His latest move to Assyriska represents another stage in his development, and he believes the club is a good fit for his ambitions.

“The unique history, the deeply passionate community behind the club, and what Assyriska means to its supporters around the world made the choice easy for me,” he said.

“The fact that the club also has a demanding, competitive environment where high standards are expected every day was also a plus.”

Opoku is now focused on adapting to Swedish football and earning his place in the team.

“I’m prepared to work relentlessly in training and stay in good shape, and in that way hope to earn my chances for playing time,” he added.
