Uber, Bolt Not Banned at Nigerian Airports — FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that Uber and Bolt have not been banned from Nigerian airports.

The clarification follows recent reports and concerns over the operations of e-hailing services at some airports across the country.

In a statement issued on August 20, 2026, FAAN said its main concern is to ensure the safety, security and convenience of passengers.

The Authority explained that airports are highly regulated environments. As a result, all commercial transport operators must follow rules that allow FAAN to properly monitor their vehicles, drivers and activities.

FAAN said it had received complaints about some commercial transport activities around airport premises, including passenger solicitation and touting.

However, the Authority stressed that this does not amount to a ban on e-hailing services.

“The current situation should therefore not be misconstrued as FAAN declaring a blanket prohibition on e-hailing services,” FAAN said.

The Authority said it is currently engaging Uber, Bolt and other mobility providers to resolve the outstanding issues and create a system that works for both passengers and airport authorities.

FAAN also clarified that ACHRAMS is not an e-hailing application and was not created to compete with Uber or Bolt.

According to the Authority, ACHRAMS is mainly used to monitor operations within the airport and manage applicable concessions and airport charges.

FAAN said the ongoing discussions with e-hailing companies are focused on passenger safety, security, accountability and proper management of pick-up activities at airports.

The Authority expressed confidence that the issues would soon be resolved.

FAAN also assured passengers that it remains committed to working with Uber, Bolt and other transport providers to ensure that travellers continue to have safe and convenient transportation options at Nigerian airports.
