Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has advertised two senior management vacancies, opening opportunities for experienced professionals to compete for leadership positions at the state-owned power generator.
The vacancies are for Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, Geothermal Development.
According to the recruitment notice, applications for both positions must reach KenGen by September 8, 2026, at 5:00 pm.
The recruitment comes as KenGen continues to position geothermal energy and other renewable sources at the centre of its electricity generation strategy.
KenGen advertises CEO position
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer will report to the KenGen Board of Directors and will be responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the company.

The successful candidate will serve as KenGen’s accounting and authorised officer and will oversee implementation of the company’s vision, mission, strategic objectives and long-term business plans.
The recruitment notice says the CEO will be responsible for developing and implementing corporate strategies, annual business plans, budgets, policies and performance targets in line with Board directives, shareholder expectations and national development priorities.
The position also involves oversight of KenGen’s financial performance, capital investments, enterprise risk management, internal controls and regulatory compliance.
The CEO will also be expected to represent KenGen in engagements with Government agencies, regulators, investors, development partners, customers and other stakeholders.
Qualifications for KenGen CEO job
Candidates applying for the CEO position must have a university degree in a relevant field from a recognised institution.
The recruitment notice requires applicants to have at least 10 years of relevant experience and at least five years in a senior management position.
KenGen also requires candidates to satisfy the integrity requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The advert gives the minimum working experience for the position as 15 years, making it one of the company’s most senior recruitment opportunities.
General Manager, Geothermal Development vacancy
KenGen has also advertised the position of General Manager, Geothermal Development under reference number CS/GD/01/08/2026.

The position will be responsible for a key area of KenGen’s operations as the company continues to develop its geothermal portfolio.
KenGen is a major geothermal power producer in Africa, with geothermal generation forming a significant part of Kenya’s renewable electricity supply.
The company says the successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in geothermal development and contribute to the implementation of its strategic objectives.

Candidates should ensure their applications include all required documents and meet the qualifications and experience requirements outlined in the respective job advertisements before submission.
KenGen sets conditions for applicants
KenGen says canvassing will lead to disqualification and that any applicant found to have falsified or misrepresented information will also be disqualified.
“Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted,” the company says in the recruitment notice.
The company has encouraged qualified women, persons with disabilities and applicants from marginalised areas to apply.
Candidates who are shortlisted will also be required to provide documents demonstrating compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution.
These include a Certificate of Good Conduct, HELB clearance, KRA Tax Compliance Certificate, EACC clearance and a current report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau.
