The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has rescued a man who was trapped in a vehicle following a road crash at Suhum Niifio on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.

The accident occurred on Sunday, August 16, and involved a Ford F-150 with registration number DV B9981 and a Kia Rio with registration number AS 5401-12.

According to the GNFS, the Ford F-150 collided with the rear of the Kia Rio while overtaking, leaving one male occupant of the Kia trapped inside the vehicle.

A six-member crew from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station, led by STNO II Darkwah Prince, arrived at the scene at 8:03pm and used extrication equipment to free the casualty.

The casualty was subsequently transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical treatment.

“The crew also salvaged GH¢50,000, US$5,231.81, mobile phones, power banks, National ID cards and other personal belongings,” the GNFS said in a statement issued by its Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer on Monday, August 17.

The crash caused extensive damage to the Ford F-150 and partial damage to the Kia Rio. No death was recorded in the incident.

The GNFS attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking and urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.

“GNFS has attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking and urges drivers to adhere to road safety regulations,” the statement added.
