Competitive shooting demands precision, composure and the ability to perform under pressure—qualities that remain central to military marksmanship and professional excellence. These attributes were on display as the Defence Forces Rifle Association (DEFRA) pistol team delivered an impressive performance at the Kenya Shooting Sports Federation (KSSF) International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) League VII.

Held on 16 August 2026 at the Ngong Racecourse Jockey Club Shooting Range in Nairobi, the competition brought together shooters in a demanding test of speed, accuracy and controlled execution. DEFRA emerged with a five-medal haul, reinforcing its standing among competitive shooting teams in the country.

Corporal Paul Ochieng led DEFRA’s podium charge by clinching gold in the Production category, while Corporal Musili Martin secured silver in the same category, giving the team a strong one-two finish.

Corporal Irene Nduna produced an outstanding double-medal performance, securing bronze in the Open category before claiming gold in the Ladies Handgun category. Sergeant Agatha Muchiri added to the medal tally with silver in the Ladies Handgun category, completing an impressive showing by the DEFRA contingent.

Beyond the medals, the team’s performance demonstrated the discipline, concentration and technical proficiency required to excel in practical shooting. Competing successfully across different categories also highlighted the depth of talent within DEFRA and the effectiveness of sustained training in developing high-performance shooters.

Participation in national competitive shooting provides Defence Forces personnel with an important platform to sharpen marksmanship skills, test their abilities against accomplished competitors and cultivate the mental resilience required to execute accurately under pressure.

The five-medal haul at IPSC League VII further strengthens DEFRA’s growing presence in competitive shooting and underscores the Kenya Defence Forces’ continued pursuit of sporting excellence, discipline and professional mastery both within and beyond the military environment.
