The Secretary of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Mr Sam Okpala, says the party is awaiting a court judgment before commencing full preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Okpala disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday while giving an update on the party’s efforts toward reconciliation and unity ahead of the elections.

He explained that once the judgment was delivered, the party would swing into action and begin the necessary preparations for the 2027 elections.

“By God’s grace, once we get our judgment, then we will swing into action. But for now, nothing much is happening on our own side,” he said.

Okpala, however, noted that the party remained hopeful about its future, saying that even if it failed to achieve its immediate political objectives, there would still be opportunities in subsequent elections.

“Like I said, if we didn’t do anything this time, there is still 2031,” he said.

NAN reports that the development comes amid renewed efforts by opposition parties and political groups to strengthen their structures and build alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

NAN also reports that recent political developments have highlighted the importance of unity and reconciliation among opposition groups.

When asked about the party’s efforts to unite its members, Okpala assured that the party remained intact and that every member would be given a sense of belonging.

He expressed optimism that the situation would become clearer after the court’s decision, which he said would enable the party to move forward with its political plans.
