Scrap Black Star Experience Secretariat – Kwame Dadzie

Kwame Dadzie and Rex Omar

Entertainment journalist, Kwame Dadzie, has called on government to scrap the Black Star Experience Secretariat and reassign its head, Rex Omar, to another department.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Dadzie questioned the relevance of the secretariat one year after its inauguration, arguing that it has failed to deliver on its original mandate.

“I am beginning to believe that either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not have a clear concept for the Black Star Experience, or the plans changed along the way,” he wrote.

According to him, what was introduced as a flagship initiative to transform Ghana’s tourism, culture and creative arts sectors has now been reduced to “a mere nomenclature for things that already happen” in those spaces.

“The NDC did not tell us it was simply going to find a name for projects the agencies were already undertaking. It set out to curate compelling experiences to propel the engines of the three branches of the sector,” Dadzie stated.

He argued that if after one year the Black Star Experience is “masquerading in the apparels of the 13 agencies of the ministry,” then there was no justification for maintaining a separate secretariat.

“Scrap it, and find another job for Rex Omar!” he said.

The Black Star Experience was launched by the government as a coordinated brand to package and promote Ghana’s tourism, culture and creative arts offerings both locally and internationally, with veteran musician and politician Rex Omar appointed to head the secretariat.
