Contrary to an announcement by the Ghana Police Service that two suspects they gunned down on Thursday afternoon were robbery suspects who had attempted to rob the Labone Branch of GCB Bank in Accra, the management of the bank has denied that the bank was the target of robbery.

In a statement issued by the management of GCB, the bank said no robbery or attempted robbery took place at the Labone branch in Accra or on the bank’s premises.

Graphic Online understands from some eyewitnesses that the police were rather chasing the suspects from the AU Village side.

In the police statement issued on social media around 2pm, the police stated,

“POLICE FOIL ROBBERY ATTEMPT ON LABONE GCB BANK: ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED, TWO GUNNED DOWN

“The Ghana Police Service today 13th August, 2026, foiled a robbery attempt on the GCB Bank, Labone Accra. Two suspects have been gunned down and one has been arrested.”
