Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has urged the Mt Kenya region to reject divisive politics and remain united ahead of next year’s General Election.

Governor Waiguru says the region has historically benefited from development by working with the government rather than remaining in opposition.

She called on leaders and residents to put aside political differences and pursue a united approach that will safeguard the region’s interests and development gains.

“We want Kirinyaga to be united, because for us, those politics of starting to promote tribalism, please, people of Kirinyaga, let us completely distance ourselves from such politics,” said Waiguru.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto has urged political leaders to put aside their differences and focus on delivering on the government’s manifesto.

Addressing elected leaders during the ongoing broad-based government retreat in Naivasha on Monday, President Ruto said Kenya can only achieve its full potential if its leaders remain united.

He said his decision to reach out to the late Raila Odinga after the 2022 polls was driven by the need to unite the country.

“Every leader, irrespective of the sides that you belong to must understand that the well-being of the Kenyan people and the destiny of our nation are dependent on us as leaders as we take the country forward”, President Ruto stated.

The two-day retreat of elected leaders allied to the broad-based government begins in Naivasha today, bringing together MPs from Kenya Kwanza and ODM.
