The Pentecost International Worship Centre, PIWC-ATOMIC, a ministry of The Church of Pentecost, has organised a family day event centred on fellowship, health and community bonding.

Opening the occasion, the Resident Minister, Pastor Abubakari Issah Gustav, urged families from the various assemblies in the district to embrace the fellowship atmosphere created for relaxation, unity and mutual encouragement.

The key activity highlights included a spirited cooking competition between the Women’s and Men’s ministries, energetic aerobics sessions, evangelism, bring-and-share, a communal fufu party, karaoke, musical chairs, face painting for the children, a children’s play corner and many other sports.

The church Medical Team provided free essential services, including vital signs checks, haemoglobin level checks, fasting blood sugar checks, selective malaria screening and treatment for those suspected of having malaria, counselling, treatment of minor ailments and care for other medical emergencies.

Education

Another key highlight was an in-depth education on selected health topics to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to make informed decisions and adopt behaviours that promote, maintain, and improve their health and that of their families.

Notable among the education were the importance of regular medical screening, the need for follow-up visits and adherence to prescribed medications.

The programme also included a focus group training on Basic Life Support Skills in partnership with One Life NGO. Participants received practical lessons in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a life-saving skill used when someone suddenly collapses and stops breathing.

They were taught how to perform chest compressions and give rescue breaths, mouth-to-mouth ventilation, while waiting for emergency medical assistance or transport to the nearest hospital.

During the demonstration, CPR manikins were provided to allow participants to practise the techniques under the guidance of trained facilitators, helping them build the confidence and skills needed to respond to emergencies at home, in the workplace and within their communities.

Health experts also conducted a Prostate-Specific Antigen test (PSA) for prostate cancer screening for all male participants aged 40 and above.

Medical team

A church medical team lead and Nursing Services Manager at the Nyaho Medical Centre, Augustina Amoah, urged participants to be intentional about their health and to heed medical advice, particularly regarding elevated blood pressure, high blood glucose levels and undiagnosed or inappropriately treated conditions over time.

The Family Day event health coordinator and Consultant Urologist at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr Enoch Tackie, expressed satisfaction with the massive turnout and the strong interest members showed in their health.

The Men’s Ministry donated two new table tennis courts, along with playing accessories, to the church leadership to kick-start a keep-fit initiative among the men.
