The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for entry level positions across various departments of the commission.
According to a recruitment notice published on its official website, the online application portal opened on Monday, July 20, and will close on Monday, July 27, 2026. Blueprint reports
The electoral umpire said the recruitment is part of efforts to strengthen its workforce and enhance operational efficiency in critical areas, including electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management, in line with its constitutional mandate.
Vacancies span multiple cadres
INEC said the available positions cut across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12, offering opportunities for professionals as well as holders of Higher National Diploma (HND), bachelor’s degrees and the National Certificate in Education (NCE).
The commission explained that the vacancies have been categorised into three cadres to accommodate applicants with different qualifications and professional backgrounds.
For the Professional Cadre, covering Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12, available positions include Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.
Applicants for these positions are required to possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a relevant field, while some specialised roles may also require a master’s degree from a recognised institution.
INEC added that candidates seeking professional positions must possess relevant professional certifications where applicable, including those issued by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) or the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). inec.com
The commission further stated that applicants should have at least two years of post qualification experience, possess a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate and demonstrate strong analytical, communication, problem solving and information technology skills.
Administrative and executive positions available
For the position of Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) on Grade Level 08, INEC said applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences.
Such applicants are also expected to present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate and demonstrate competence in data management, record keeping and the use of Microsoft Office applications and other digital tools.
Candidates interested in the Executive Officer (Registration Officer) position on Grade Level 07 must possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent from a recognised institution.
According to the commission, applicants for the position should also have basic computer knowledge, good communication skills and the ability to manage records effectively.
General eligibility requirements
INEC outlined a number of conditions that all applicants must satisfy before they can be considered for employment.
The commission stated that applicants must not be older than 35 years at the time of application and must present a valid certificate of state of origin duly signed by the chairman or secretary of their respective local government council.
Prospective candidates are also required to provide evidence of being physically and mentally fit through certification by a government medical officer.
In addition, applicants must be persons of good character with no criminal conviction and must be willing to serve in any part of the country if successful.
The commission stressed that successful candidates are expected to demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
Application process
INEC said all applications must be submitted online through its official recruitment portal.
Interested candidates are required to create an applicant account using their personal details, valid email address and National Identification Number (NIN) before proceeding with the application.
After verifying their email address, applicants are expected to log into the portal, select their preferred cadre and vacancy, complete the application form and upload all relevant documents.
The required documents include a recent passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level certificate, degree, HND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate where applicable.
Applicants are advised to carefully review all information provided before submitting their applications, as the commission noted that selected vacancies cannot be changed after submission.
Recruitment free of charge
INEC emphasised that the recruitment exercise is completely free, warning applicants to disregard individuals or groups demanding payment or promising employment in exchange for money.
The commission also cautioned candidates against submitting false information or forged documents, stressing that anyone found guilty would be automatically disqualified and could face prosecution in accordance with the law.
It advised applicants to ensure that all information supplied during registration is accurate and verifiable.
Shortlisted candidates to proceed
The commission stated that only candidates who successfully meet the requirements at the application stage will be shortlisted for the next phase of the recruitment process.
Although it did not disclose details of the subsequent stages, INEC assured applicants that further communication would be made to successful candidates through the contact details provided during registration.
The electoral body encouraged qualified Nigerians who meet the stipulated requirements to take advantage of the opportunity before the application portal closes on Monday, July 27, 2026.
