Kumasi, July 15, GNA – Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has held talks with the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG), focusing on measures to strengthen the country’s auto mechanic ecosystem and create decent employment opportunities for the youth in the sector.
The leadership of the Association called on the Regional Minister at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, where discussions centred on promoting skills development through apprenticeship, improving technical training, and fostering innovation within the automobile repair industry.
Dr. Amoakohene described the automobile repair industry as a vital contributor to the local economy and youth employment, noting that, the sector continued to provide livelihoods for thousands of artisans and apprentices across the region.
He said the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council was committed to working closely with stakeholders in the industry to support policies and partnerships that would help modernise the sector, empower artisans, and position young people to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the automotive industry, including advances in vehicle technology.
The Regional Minister commended the leadership of the Association for the productive engagement expressing appreciation for their continued commitment to organising and developing the trade.
He reaffirmed his outfit’s readiness to collaborate with the Association on future initiatives aimed at improving standards, training and working conditions within the auto mechanic industry, for the mutual benefit of the Ashanti Region and the country as a whole.
The engagement formed part of efforts by the Regional Coordinating Council to strengthen ties with trade associations and artisan groups as part of regional economic development initiatives.
