Long-standing industrial stakeholder in Ghana’s hygiene and personal care sector, Softcare FM Manufacturing Limited, has donated relief items and cash to support the government’s efforts to assist victims of the recent floods.

The company presented 100 cartons of sanitary pads, 50 cartons of baby diapers, 100 cartons of washing powder, and 100 cartons of soap. It also made a cash donation of GH¢200,000 to further support relief efforts.

The items were presented by the company’s managing director and received on behalf of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

The donation comes in the wake of the devastating June 29 floods, which severely affected thousands of people across the Greater Accra Region. The disaster caused widespread destruction, claimed 12 lives, and displaced many others.

According to the company, it considers it important to contribute to efforts aimed at supporting affected families and safeguarding their well-being during this difficult period.

‘As a member of the community for more than 2 decades,’ he said, ‘it is heartbreaking to see the flood ravaging various regions of the country, leaving many people homeless. We will try as much as we can to be of any assistance and remain committed to the community.’

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance has released GH¢350 million from the Contingency Fund to support emergency relief operations and flood mitigation measures following the disaster.

The funds have been transferred into a dedicated National Disaster Management Committee account to finance the government’s National Emergency Flood Response Programme, which seeks to provide immediate assistance to affected persons while investing in long-term measures to reduce the impact of future flooding.
