Kenya, 7 July 2026 – Kenya is intensifying efforts to position its livestock industry as a leading supplier of quality meat to regional and international markets, with the government set to launch a national animal identification and traceability system aimed at boosting confidence among global buyers.

Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe will this week host the Kenya Meat Conference, where industry leaders and stakeholders from across the livestock and meat value chain will deliberate on the future of the country’s meat industry and strategies for expanding export opportunities.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the conference, scheduled for July 8 and 9, “will focus on strengthening the industry, expanding market opportunities and positioning Kenyan meat as a competitive product in regional and global markets.”

Held under the theme “Connecting Kenya’s Livestock Sector to Global Markets,” the forum is expected to bring together policymakers, producers, processors, investors and exporters to chart a new growth path for one of Kenya’s key agricultural sectors.

A major highlight of the conference will be the launch of the Animal Identification and Traceability System (ANITRAC), a digital platform designed to improve livestock traceability, enhance disease surveillance and ensure Kenyan meat meets the stringent standards required in international markets.
