Absa Bank Kenya has appointed Ms. Diana Mwaniki as the acting Chief Finance Officer(CFO). She assumes this role at Absa Bank Kenya after serving as the lender’s Head of Financial Decision Support since joining the institution in September 2022.
Mwaniki will lead the Absa Bank Kenya’s finance function, providing strategic financial leadership and oversight.

In her new capacity as CFO, she will oversee the lender’s finance function and provide strategic financial leadership as the bank pursues its growth and sustainability agenda.
Mwaniki’s appointment to the C-suite follows the elevation of former CFO Yusuf Omari to interim Managing Director, Absa Bank Kenya, after the resignation of former CEO Abdi Mohamed.
“Diana has been instrumental in strengthening our financial planning and decision-support capabilities. Her appointment ensures continuity in our financial stewardship as we continue executing our strategic priorities, “said Omari.
Mwaniki packs more than 17 years of deep experience in financial services, with expertise in financial strategy, governance, internal controls, risk management and performance oversight, the bank said.
Absa says the appointment underscores its commitment to leadership continuity and strong financial stewardship as it navigates the transition in its executive management.
Prior to joining Absa Kenya, Mwaniki served at Manager in Charge of Internal Controls and Finance Reporting at Stanbic Bank Kenya before becoming the Finance Controller in 2020 at Stanbic.
She cut her teeth at Ernst& Young in Nairobi where she rose through the ranks to before assuming a senior managerial position. She is in possession of an MBA from United States University of Africa and a Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from Moi University. She is also a qualified Certified Public Accountant.
