The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has dismissed all allegations of human rights violations brought against former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo in relation to her suspension and subsequent removal from office.

Delivering its judgment today, the court held that Ghana did not violate Justice Torkornoo’s rights to a fair hearing, dignity, information and work under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and consequently dismissed all the reliefs she sought, including her request for reinstatement and compensation of $10 million for alleged moral and reputational damage.
