The Adamorobe Traditional Council in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region has disclosed plans to petition the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, over the poor condition of roads linking the community to Aburi and Oyibi.
The decision follows rising tensions in the area, with the Council indicating it has gathered intelligence suggesting growing youth unrest over the worsening state of the roads and its impact on daily life and economic activity.
In May 2026, young people in the community staged a demonstration and submitted a petition to the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly, demanding urgent government intervention. However, residents say there has been no meaningful response to their concerns.
Speaking in his first public remarks since his enstoolment on Tuesday June 24, the Chief of Adamorobe, Osaahene Okakabeng Okodom Kwakwasi III, described the road situation as dire, warning that it is stalling development and hurting local businesses.
“I am going to contact my lawyers and then write a petition to the Minister for Highways on the state of the road because it is affecting activities in the town,” he stated.
Residents, meanwhile, have escalated their concerns, threatening to boycott the 2028 general elections if government fails to reconstruct the roads.
They further warned that they would resist the Electoral Commission from transporting voting materials into the community and also block political rallies and campaign activities if their demands are ignored.
Some residents who spoke to Citi News said the poor road network has significantly reduced investor interest in the area, deepening unemployment and slowing down economic activities.
