The Taraba State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized more than 1.1 tonnes of cannabis during a major operation in Bali local government council of the state.

The illicit substance, identified as Cannabis Sativa, was intercepted in an intelligence led operation carried out on June 13, 2026, in Maihula Town.

According to the agency, operatives recovered 70 bags of the substance weighing a total of 1,121.5 kilograms, equivalent to approximately 1.12 metric tonnes.

The operation was confirmed to have also led to the arrest of a 45-year-old suspect, Ali Adamu, in whose warehouse the drugs were allegedly discovered.

Confirming the development, the state commander of the NDLEA, Javanson Talayedi Kwalma, described the seizure as one of the command’s most significant operational successes since its establishment.

Kwalma said the breakthrough demonstrates the agency’s resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities across the state from the harmful effects of illicit drug activities.

“The seizure reflects our unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents of Taraba State,” he said.

The suspect remains in NDLEA custody and is assisting investigators as efforts continue to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the operation.

The command also expressed appreciation to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, officers who participated in the operation, and members of the public whose intelligence contributed to the successful seizure.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse while strengthening efforts to safeguard communities across Taraba state.
