Black Stars depart Wales for World Cup base in the United States – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Ghana’s Black Stars have departed Wales and are now en route to the United States as preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup enter a crucial phase.

The team left the United Kingdom on Wednesday following Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Wales in Cardiff, which served as Carlos Queiroz’s first match in charge of the four-time African champions.

The Black Stars will be based at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, during the tournament. The university campus, located just outside Boston, has been selected as Ghana’s official training and accommodation base for the World Cup.

The move marks the next stage of Ghana’s preparations as the squad settles into its North American environment ahead of the competition.

Queiroz and his players are expected to continue intensive training sessions in Rhode Island as they fine-tune plans for their opening group-stage fixture.

The Black Stars head to the World Cup after a mixed build-up that included a late draw against Wales, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring his first senior international goal before the hosts equalised in stoppage time.

Despite the disappointment of conceding late, Ghana will take positives from the performance as they shift their full focus to the tournament.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before facing England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia.

With the countdown to kickoff now firmly underway, the team will look to use the coming days in Rhode Island to build momentum and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead at football’s biggest tournament.
