Berekum installs new paramount chief, pledges unity, dev’t

The Berekum Traditional Council has officially enstooled a new Paramount Chief, Odeefuor Diabour Asante II, ascending the revered Amankona Diawuo Stool in a ceremony marked by rich cultural tradition and royal authority.

The 63-year-old Germany-based royal, known in private life as Mr Kofi Asante Kyere, swore the oath of allegiance to the Traditional Council and the people of Berekum, affirming his commitment to serve with integrity and uphold the customs and responsibilities of the stool.

The Council charged the new Berekumhene to lead with unity and bring together chiefs and citizens as one people to advance development in the traditional area.

Odeefuor Diabour Asante II pledged to unite Nananom and the people of Berekum to promote sustainable development.

“My vision is anchored on discipline, youth development, education, sanitation, and the total development of Berekumman. I will work to promote unity, peace, love, and stability,” he stated.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the new Paramount Chief was carried shoulder-high and presented to the people, symbolising his formal introduction and acceptance.

Odeefuor Diabour Asante II succeeds the late Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo, who passed away in 2023.

Born on August 28, 1962, in Berekum, he hails from the Berekum Royal Family. He received his early education at the Berekum Presbyterian School and later attended Dormaa Secondary School, where he completed both his Ordinary and Advanced Level education between 1976 and 1983.

In 1984, he relocated to Germany, where he built a distinguished career spanning over three decades. During this period, he also furthered his education in London, earning a Certificate in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives.

His professional career includes roles in reputable international organisations such as Beiersdorf, Schnellecke Logistics, Advance Automotive, and Rewe Marketing.

Married with two children, the new Paramount Chief brings a blend of traditional leadership and international experience to the role, as expectations grow for his leadership to drive unity and development in Berekum.
