2026 FIFA World Cup: Ghana secures 1,000 tickets for fans – Sports Minister confirms

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has confirmed that the government has pre-purchased 1,000 tickets for supporters of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The law-maker hinted that, the move was expensive but essential, explaining that their early planning was crucial to avoid the rising costs typically associated with last-minute ticket procurement for major international tournaments, particularly one hosted across North America.

“It is really nightmarish and a difficult one. This is the first time we are trying that. For us as a country, this is the first time we are playing a World Cup in that zone,” he told Citi News.

“Luckily for us, we managed and planned very well and effectively. We ordered for 1,000. I believe that that is what has saved the situation because if we were waiting till now, it would have cost us huge sums of money to even get those number of tickets,” Kofi Adams stated.

Adams added that, the Ghana Football Association and other partner organisations have also independently acquired tickets to support travelling supporters.

“I wouldn’t say only a thousand. The FA itself has secured some tickets. We have other organisations that also have secured tickets. They are all sponsoring Ghanaians to be able to get in there,” he said.

Ghana will face Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium before meeting Jamaica on June 10 in their final warm-up game.

The four-times AFCON winners, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign on June 17 against Panama, before facing England on June 23 and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
