NSCDC officers arrested over colleague’s death as police discover N2bn in suspect’s account

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested at least three officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Mining Marshals Unit allegedly involved in the death of their senior colleague, Agada Levi Agada, during an operation in Nasarawa State.

The police, in a statement said its Force Intelligence Department, FID, began an investigation into Agada’s death after receipt of a petition filed by the lawyer to the family.

The statement said the arrested NSCDC personnel are Simeon Yakubu Anyebe, Ibrahim Ayefu and Iwodi Obochi.

The deceased was reportedly shot while on duty during an operation at Rafin Gabas in the Agwada area of Nasarawa State.

The police also disclosed that investigators traced over N2 billion to a bank account belonging to an NSCDC Mining Marshal, with efforts ongoing to determine the nature of the transactions and any links to other suspects.

According to the police, several Mining Marshal personnel were invited for questioning but failed to honour the invitations.

“We traced over N2 billion into the Zenith Bank account of Sergeant Labaran, the account number is 1008392780; and we have been able to trace the transfer and receipt of such clandestine monies from his account to and from the accounts of some of the other suspects,” the police stated.
