President of Uganda’s football federation, Hon Magogo Moses Hassim, has praised Ghanaian coach Laryea Kingston for the quality football displayed by the U17 team.
Kingston led Uganda’s Cubs back to the FIFA U17 World Cup after beating Ghana on penalties in the play-offs of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
The Eastern Africans had finished third in Group B after defeating DR Congo in their opening game, before losing to Cameroon and drawing against Ivory Coast. And in all three group games, the Cubs impressed with their possession-based brand of football.
Following their return to Kampala after their historic feat, Kingston and the group were given a warm welcome before meeting the country’s top football officials. The team also met the head coach of the Ugandan Cranes Paul Put, who had an inspiring message to the talented players.
In an address to the team, FUFA boss commended Kingston for improving the U17 team.
“It is the first time in my history to see a team of this age playing that quality of football,” he said.
Kingston has now been tasked to prepare the team for the U17 World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year.
