The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced multiple power disruptions for Thursday, May 28, 2026, combining scheduled maintenance exercises across three regions with ongoing fault-related blackouts that have already affected customers in Accra West, Tema and Ashanti South since Wednesday.
Advisories compiled by GraphicOnline indicate that in the Accra West Region, planned maintenance will cut supply to Abease, Achiama, Obeyeyie, Ayikai Doblo and surrounding areas from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Thursday. The notice, originally issued on Saturday, 23rd May, states that the exercise is necessary to improve service delivery.
The Accra East Region will also experience a scheduled outage from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Thursday, affecting North Dzorwulu, parts of GIMPA, New England, Obediben, Aseidu Nketia Junction, Gravel Pit, Oyarifa and surrounding areas. This notice was originally released on Tuesday, 26th May.
In the Tema Region, planned maintenance will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Thursday, hitting Santor, Jordan City, Aunty Kate, Agbeshie Laryea, Nelplast, Kubekro, Level 400, Ashaiman New Town, Jericho, Communities 19 and 20, Awudu Issaka, St Bakhita, Sun City, Tema Women’s Hospital, Raphael Medical Center, Community 11, Gyan Towers and surrounding areas.
Separately, ECG has been grappling with unplanned outages since Wednesday, 27th May, caused by infrastructure failures and network faults.
In the Accra West Region, a burnt high tension pole at Sakaman triggered blackouts affecting Stanley Owusu, Mallam market, Zoomlion, Blues Lagoon, Sakaman Methodist and surrounding areas. ECG assured customers that engineers are working assiduously to resolve the challenge and restore supply.
The Tema Region has been hit by two separate upstream challenges. The first has cut power to Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo, Akrade, Senchi, Atimpoku, Asutsuare, Golden Exotics, Volivo, Osuwem, the Commandos Military Training Camp, Juapong, Akwamufie, Frankadua, Nudu, Kisifui, Apeguso, Volo, Anum, Boso, Osiabura, Mpakadan, Okwenya, Akorley, Adukrom Booster Station, Teye Kwame, Asutsuare Junction, Sun City, Manyajopanya, Glamour Farms and surrounding areas. A second upstream challenge has affected Mobile, Afienya, the Quarries, Greenhouse Enclave, Otsebreku, Okushibri, Jerusalem, Apollonia City, Katamanso, Promised Land, Elegant Homes, Data Centre, TOR Estates, Emmanuel Estates, Hot Oven, Afariwaa Junction, Yellow Signboard, Michell Camp and Gate, Kakasunaka, Gbetsile, Soldierline, Tema International School, Don Bosco, Bethlehem, Sebrepor, Goshen, White Estates, Emef’s Estates, Community 22, Official Town, New Town, Booster, Clementina, Ashaiman Circuit Courts, Dawhenya, Prampram, Central University, Star Steel, PS Global, Adom Estates, Miotso, Irrigation, Devtraco, Christian International School, Fiakonya, Odumse, Dodowa Switching Station and surrounding areas.
In the Ashanti South Region, a network fault has caused outages in Nyade, Asarekrom, Abrensi, Nsiana and surrounding areas. Engineers are working to rectify the fault, ECG said.
The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to affected customers across all regions and assured that supply would be restored as soon as possible. Customers in areas scheduled for planned maintenance have been advised to make alternative arrangements for power-dependent activities during the specified hours.
