President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan agreed Wednesday to strengthen energy cooperation, including proposals for the UAE invest in oil and gas storage facilities in Ghana.

The two leaders held these discussions on the sidelines of the “Make it in the Emirates 2026” summit at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The leaders addressed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and acknowledged the UAE’s difficult position as a buffer zone. Both expressed hope for a swift resolution to US-Iran hostilities and stated that restoring peace would allow the global community refocus on sustainable development and innovation.

Beyond traditional fossil fuels, the two leaders emphasised diversifying energy portfolios. They explored alternative approaches to securing the energy sector and specifically highlighted transitioning to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and solar power to reduce over-reliance on crude oil.

They discussed ways to further enhance bilateral ties for the benefit of their people, focusing on trade, investment, renewable energy, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence.

The two leaders concluded the meeting by reaffirming the deep historical ties between Ghana and the UAE. The UAE President praised Ghana as a “peaceful partner” and a “secure, stable democracy,” noting the significant opportunities for mutual growth.

Both leaders expressed optimism that their renewed partnership would lead to tangible advancements in trade, investment, and sustainable energy, benefiting both nations for years to come
