BrighterMonday, Security Sector Partner to Boost Youth Jobs in Kenya

Recruitment and HR solutions firm BrighterMonday Kenya has announced a new partnership with Kenya’s security sector aimed at strengthening corporate security leadership while expanding employment opportunities for young people across the industry.

The collaboration seeks to build leadership capacity within the security ecosystem while creating structured pathways for youth to access work-readiness training and meaningful employment. It also focuses on improving the quality of job placements through verified and outcome-driven recruitment processes.

Speaking on the initiative, Penina Kimani, Country Programme Lead and Head of Strategy TATC at BrighterMonday, said the evolving nature of security threats is driving demand for more skilled and proactive talent in the sector.

“Kenyan organisations are increasingly required to adopt proactive, intelligence-led, and skills-driven approaches to onboarding talent in the security sector,” she said. “BrighterMonday will collaborate with security sector associations to place young people aged 18 to 35 into dignified and fulfilling work in Kenya and across Africa.”

The security industry, often viewed as a foundational pillar for economic stability, is increasingly being positioned as a key driver of job creation. Industry stakeholders say strengthening the link between security and skills development could unlock new employment opportunities, particularly for young job seekers.

According to Kimani, the sector must evolve to meet the expectations of both employers and job seekers, with a stronger emphasis on training, crisis readiness, and talent development.

“The security sector is widely recognised as a fundamental pillar for economic growth and stability,” she added. “This partnership will deliver targeted training and support youth placement through employer linkages and recruitment aligned with current industry needs.”

The initiative will be implemented through the Gen-Kazi Programme, led by BrighterMonday Kenya in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. The programme focuses on equipping young people with in-demand skills and connecting them to employment opportunities.

Gen-Kazi targets youth aged 18 to 35, with a strong emphasis on inclusion. The programme prioritises underserved groups, including women, youth from non-urban areas, and persons with disabilities, as part of a broader effort to address structural employment gaps.

BrighterMonday says the collaboration will not only support job creation but also contribute to building safer business environments that promote continuity and long-term economic growth in Kenya.
