The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun implementing a comprehensive policy framework aimed at strengthening its operational systems in the Volta Region, as part of renewed efforts to tackle persistent power outages that have affected residents and businesses over the years.
The initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to improve the reliability and efficiency of electricity distribution across the country.
Authorities say the move is intended to address longstanding technical and infrastructural challenges within the region’s power network, which have contributed to recurring disruptions in supply.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, April 15, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s power distribution systems.
He noted that the intervention in the Volta Region is only one phase of a wider rollout that will eventually extend to other parts of the country.
According to the Minister, the government is determined to ensure that ECG’s distribution network is upgraded to meet increasing demand while also reducing the frequency and duration of outages.
“We will be moving to Kumasi in the month of May and we will move to all the other regions. Volta region is developing a comprehensive programme to boost the system so that the low outages that we are experiencing for years, we can address those challenges.
“And so let me thank you members of the media. We will continue to work with you and we will continue to ensure that we are strengthening the distribution system, the transmission system, and the generation system.”
