South African Airways adds flights and flags no disruption amid fuel talks

South African Airways has moved to reassure trade partners that all services are operating normally, despite ongoing discussions around aviation fuel supply in South Africa.

The carrier says contingency planning is in place and there is no impact to its network.

In a related capacity move, SAA has added two extra services – SA280 on 24 April and SA281 on 25 April – with availability currently wide open on both flights.

The updates come as the airline continues to push its Australia and New Zealand trade relationships, with sales representatives Greg Atkins and Eve Kelly available to host tailored training sessions and webinars for agent teams across the country.

On the product front, SAA is highlighting a one-stop Perth-São Paulo routing via Johannesburg, offering agents a platform to sell combined South Africa and South America itineraries on a single ticket. Connections to Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and other destinations are available through partnerships with GOL and LATAM.

Cape Town, meanwhile, has added another accolade to its growing list, taking out Best LGBTQ+ City Destination at the 2026 Spartacus Travel Awards. The recognition builds anticipation ahead of World Pride 2028, which the city will host – marking the first time the event has been held on the African continent.

Finally, the airline has reminded agents that wheelchair assistance requests must be submitted manually at the time of booking, with full passenger mobility details included under OSI. SAA does not issue automatic confirmation as some carriers do, and cases involving recent surgery require a completed MEDIF form sent to [email protected] and [email protected].
