Ukraine opened its first agro-hub on the African continent in the Republic of Ghana – Food Processing and Distribution Center began operating under President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Food from Ukraine initiative, PM Yuliia Svyrydenko wrote on April 14.
“Despite the war, Ukraine remains a guarantor of global food security,” Svyrydenko emphasized.
“At the same time, it offers a new model of cooperation — not just supplying grain, but also creating new opportunities for partners.”
The agro-hub was created by Ukrainian agribusiness in cooperation with the Ghanaian government as a result of agreements reached during the Food from Ukraine conference in November 2025.
“This is a new format of our presence in the world, where humanitarian support is combined with the development of partnership and the local economy,” Svyrydenko explained.
Ukrainian products will be combined with local ones here, forming food kits and ensuring their distribution. The next stage is the development of processing, packaging, and portioning directly in Ghana.
The first kits already included locally produced rice and pasta made in Ghana from Ukrainian flour. A total of 4,000 food kits were handed over to the most vulnerable segments of the population – Ghanaian widows.
“We consider Ghana an important partner in West Africa for humanitarian support and trade development on the west coast of the African continent,” Svyrydenko stated.
“We are ready to share our expertise, technologies, and experience in increasing yields to jointly strengthen global food security.”
Ukraine is also considering the possibility of creating a food hub in Egypt.
Ukraine and Ghana signed a memorandum of understanding on creating a center for the processing and distribution of Ukrainian products in West Africa in November 2025.
