The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a marine forecast for the Kenyan coast, valid from 6th to 7th April 2026.
In its update, the department states that the Kenyan Coast is expected to experience slight to moderate sea conditions, wave heights, and wind patterns over Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu.
The department has also issued an advisory including the wave height condition for those using the Kenyan Coast.
Wind Patterns and Impacts on Marine Activities
Winds along the coast will be from the south-southeast (SSE) to southeast (SE), with speeds ranging between 4 and 11 knots in the morning and 7–10 knots in the afternoon.
Kenya Met describes these conditions as light to gentle breezes, which are generally favorable for marine operations.

Caution is advised when winds reach 7–17 knots; small boats are likely to be affected by water sprays and may become unstable.
Mariners are encouraged to monitor wind changes to avoid incidents at sea closely. For stronger winds exceeding 21 knots, Kenya Met notes that marine operations become dangerous, though such conditions are not forecast for this period.

| 3.0 – 4.0 | 9.0 – 12.0 | Rough | Warning in place and marine activities on hold |
| 4.1 – 5.5 | 12.3 – 16.5 | Very Rough | Warning in place and marine activities on hold |
Wind Speed
| Wind Speed (Knots) | Description | Impact |
| <1 – 6 | Calm to Light Breeze | The ocean is relatively calm with very little disturbance. Suitable for marine operations |
| 7 – 17 | Gentle Breeze to Fresh Breeze | Small boats are likely to be filled with water and become unstable. Caution in carrying out marine activities |
| 22 – ≥34 | Strong to Extremely Strong Breeze | The ocean is highly disturbed; conditions are dangerous for marine operations. |

- Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi: Morning waves are predicted at 2–3 feet with very small, short to mid-period waves of 9–12 seconds. Afternoon conditions will slightly settle, with waves remaining at around 2 feet and 10 seconds, and seas exhibiting a slight chop.
- Lamu: Morning seas are smooth under light and variable winds with waves at 3 feet at 10 seconds, while the afternoon is expected to maintain a slight chop under light SE winds.
Visibility is expected to remain moderate at 9–10 kilometers, allowing for relatively safe navigation.
