United Nigeria Airlines Suspends Staff for Alleged Abuse of Disabled Passenger

United Nigeria Airlines has suspended a staff member following allegations of mistreatment involving a passenger with reduced mobility at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred during check-in for Flight UN0526 from Abuja to Yenagoa and involved a passenger identified as Doris Akonanya.

In a statement, the airline’s spokesperson, Chibuike Uloka, confirmed that the employee has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of a full investigation.

The airline described the alleged conduct as unprofessional and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, discrimination, or abuse, especially involving passengers requiring special assistance.

“We take this matter very seriously. The safety, dignity, and well-being of all our passengers remain our highest priority,” the airline said.

It added that the incident was “regrettable and inconsistent with our service standards and corporate values,” while assuring that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken after investigations are concluded.

The airline also issued an apology to the affected passenger and her family, acknowledging the emotional distress caused by the incident.

According to the company, it has maintained direct communication with the passenger and is working with relevant stakeholders to establish the full facts of the case.

United Nigeria Airlines further pledged to strengthen staff training, operational processes, and oversight mechanisms to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
