The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has cautioned that Ghanaian workers could face renewed hardship if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) returns to power in 2028.
According to him, the experience of workers under the party’s previous administration was marked by significant challenges, raising concerns about the potential impact of a future NPP government on labour conditions.
Speaking on Ahotor FM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Koomson urged Ghanaians to remain cautious and not be swayed by what he described as misleading political narratives, particularly from the Minority.
“Workers suffered under the NPP, and they will suffer again if Ghanaians buy into their promises and return them to power,” he warned.
He cited the implementation of what he described as anti-worker policies, including the Frozen Bonds, the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), and the closure of private banks, which he said led to massive job losses across the country.
Koomson also called on labour union leaders to remain focused and avoid partisan influence, emphasising the need to prioritise the welfare and interests of workers above political considerations.
He further expressed concern about what he described as a sudden shift in the NPP’s posture, cautioning that it should not be misconstrued as a genuine transformation.
“They cannot change overnight. Workers must be very careful,” he stated.
He concluded by urging workers and union leaders to remain vigilant and make informed decisions to protect their livelihoods and long-term well-being.
