Western North Peace Council holds community engagement at Aboboyaa

Sefwi- Aboboyaa, March 29, GNA – The Western North Regional Peace Council in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service has engaged residents of Aboboyaa, a farming community in the Wiawso Municipality, on the need to embrace peace to foster unity and development.  

It was under the theme: “Strengthening Community Safety and Vigilance.”  

Madam Elizabeth Boduwah, Acting Executive Secretary of the Western North Peace Council, told the Ghana News Agency that the community engagement formed part of the Council’s activities for the first quarter of the year.  

She explained that it was imperative to create awareness and sensitise the people to help ensure peace and security in communities.   

She mentioned that they had also undertaken peace education in selected schools and would engage more of them to imbibe peace-building mechanisms in the students to become ambassadors of peace, unity, and security in their communities.   

Sheikh Osman Hashim Issah, a member of the Western North Regional Peace Council, called on citizens to always strive for peace and live in harmony with one another.  

He also advised the youth to desist from all forms irresponsible behaviours like armed robbery and substance abuse and concentrate on their studies to safeguard their future.  

He also encouraged parents to take proper care of their children, saying; “Parenting must be a shared responsibility, and we must all get involved in nurturing our children to be good citizens.”  

Nana Aseiyie, Aboboyaa Wirempimhene, on behalf of the community commended the Peace Council for the engagement and appealed for a community watch-dog committee to help improve upon security in the community.   

He expressed worry about the high rate of illegal drug use among the youth and appealed to the appropriate state institutions to help curb the situation.  

Some residents also lauded the Peace Council for the initiative and appealed for more resources for the council to extend the engagement to other communities.
