Five people have been detained in Johannesburg on suspicion of murdering a well-known South African political scientist and Russia specialist Stephen Gruzd. This was announced by the official representative of the megalopolis police, Captain Tintsvalo Sibeko.
Gruzd, who headed the African Governance and diplomacy program at the South African Institute of International Relations, was kidnapped on March 27 during a meeting in Johannesburg. His body was subsequently discovered.
The reasons for the abduction and murder of Gruzd have not yet been established. The names of the detainees are not disclosed. On March 30, all five will appear in court, TASS reports.
