As cyber threats targeting governments, financial institutions and critical infrastructure continue to rise globally, organisations in Ghana are stepping up efforts to strengthen the resilience of their digital systems.

Against this backdrop, global connectivity and cybersecurity company Cloudflare, in partnership with Comsec Technology Solutions, hosted a three-day cybersecurity seminar series in Accra to strengthen cyber resilience and protect Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

The initiative focused on helping organisations defend against sophisticated cyber threats, including large-scale Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks.

The seminar also comes as Cloudflare expands its global network infrastructure, including the strategic deployment of network nodes in Accra.

These nodes are designed to deliver faster, more reliable and secure internet services across Ghana and the wider West African region by mitigating cyber threats closer to their source.

A unified front for national cyber defence

The seminar series brought together industry leaders, technology professionals and key decision-makers from organisations that form the backbone of Ghana’s digital economy.

Participants included representatives from financial institutions, government agencies, telecommunications providers and other critical service sectors.

The event also featured high-level participation from Cyber Security Authority (CSA). A senior representative from the authority emphasised the importance of collaboration between government institutions, international technology providers and local industry stakeholders in building what was described as a “cyber-safe Ghana”.

Combating the surge in DDoS and web attacks

During the sessions, cybersecurity specialists from Cloudflare shared insights into the evolving global cyber threat landscape.

Particular attention was given to the rise in Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks, which are designed to overwhelm and shut down digital platforms.

Cloudflare experts demonstrated automated approaches for protecting web applications, APIs and internet-facing services from such attacks.

Technology experts from Comsec Technology Solutions complemented the global perspective with local insights, discussing practical, region-specific security strategies and sharing examples of organisations in Ghana that have successfully strengthened their cybersecurity posture.

Leadership perspectives

Speaking at the event, Boaz Alon, Chief Executive Officer of Comsec Technology Solutions, said cybersecurity has become central to organisational resilience.

“As organisations across Ghana increasingly rely on complex digital systems and online services, cybersecurity has transitioned from an IT concern to a critical pillar of business continuity and national trust. Initiatives like this seminar series allow us to bring world-class global expertise together with our local implementation experience to ensure Ghanaian organisations remain resilient in the face of any threat,” he said.

Adding a global perspective, Graham Turnbull, Account Executive at Cloudflare, said the company’s goal is to help create a safer and faster internet.

“Our goal is to help build a better internet that is secure and fast for everyone. By strengthening our partnership with Comsec and investing in local infrastructure in Accra, we are providing Ghanaian enterprises with the tools needed to defend against the world’s most sophisticated DDoS attacks and cyber threats, ensuring their digital services remain always-on and performant,” he said.

Tailored sessions for critical sectors

The seminar series also featured specialised sessions for critical sectors.

One session focused on financial system protection, addressing issues such as securing banking applications, protecting transaction data and maintaining regulatory compliance in a high-risk digital environment.

Another session targeted government and public institutions, focusing on safeguarding critical national data while ensuring the availability of essential public services.

Organisers said the initiative reflects the long-term commitment of Comsec Technology Solutions and Cloudflare to support Ghana with advanced cybersecurity knowledge and modern protection technologies to safeguard the country’s digital future.
