Accra, March 08, GNA—The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija-Gbawe, Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has brought hope to hundreds of residents through his latest community health initiative, the Health Train Eyecare Project 2026.

The five-day free eye care outreach, held from Monday, March 2 to Friday, March 6, provided screening and surgeries for cataract and pterygium conditions, among the leading causes of visual impairment in the area, a statement issued by the MP and copied to the Ghana News Agency said. It said the programme, organized by Mr. Ahmed Shaib, also the Second Deputy Minority Whip, targeted residents who often struggled to access specialized eye care services.

“Good vision is essential for productivity and quality of life. Unfortunately, many people delay treatment because they cannot afford surgery or specialist consultation. This programme was meant to bring that care directly to the people,” the statement quoted Mr. Ahmed Shaib as saying.

According to the statement, the outreach, held at various locations including Mallam Station, High Tension SCC, and Gbawe Gonse Down, saw hundreds of residents receive medical attention. “The programme also included general medical screening and registration for the National Health Insurance Scheme,” it said.

It noted that beneficiaries praised the initiative, saying it was a life-changing opportunity, adding that community leaders also commended the MP for the timely intervention, which will help restore sight to many residents and improve the overall health outlook of the constituency.

The Health Train Eyecare Project is the latest in a series of community-focused initiatives by the Weija-Gbawe MP aimed at addressing pressing needs in the area.
