The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, Zia Choudhury, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, to explore ways of strengthening collaboration between the Commission and the United Nations system in advancing Ghana’s development priorities.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr Amoah expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the NDPC and the United Nations, emphasising the Commission’s commitment to deepening cooperation with development partners.

She noted that effective collaboration remains essential to ensuring that development planning in Ghana is coordinated, evidence-driven and aligned with both national priorities and global commitments.

Dr Amoah further explained that the Commission’s 2026 Annual Action Plan focuses on strengthening policy-oriented research, enhancing coordination within the national development planning framework and improving monitoring and evaluation systems to support the effective implementation of policies and programmes.

Directors from the Commission’s four technical divisions also briefed the visiting delegation on their respective strategic priorities.

Among the initiatives highlighted were efforts to coordinate Ghana’s reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), preparations for the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), and the development of a Human Capital Development Strategy aimed at boosting investments in education, health, skills and productivity.

Other updates included work on an electronic planning platform to streamline development planning processes, as well as the expansion of the District Development Data Platform to improve data collection and reporting across Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

In his remarks, Mr Choudhury reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda and strengthening its collaboration with the NDPC.

He indicated that the UN system is currently preparing the next UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2027–2031 and will work closely with the Commission to ensure that the framework reflects Ghana’s evolving development priorities.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive development in Ghana.
