Suspected phone thief set ablaze in Plateau

A suspected phone thief was on Tuesday afternoon in Apata community, Jos North local government area of Plateau state set ablaze by a mob.

A source explained that the suspect, who is believed to be armed, had allegedly snatched a phone at gunpoint before he was later apprehended by the residents.

The thief, the source further explained is a young man who collected someone’s phone in the afternoon, fired a shot into the air in order to scare people away from apprehending him.

He said that a mob quickly gathered when they discovered that he was struggling with his gun, chased him, caught him and set him ablaze before security operatives could arrive at the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Alabo Alfred, could not be reached for comments.
