Some students participating in the Dormabin Inter-Circuit Games were injured in a head-on collision between a cargo truck (VR 342-15) and a private car (GT 1109-18) on the Tokuroano–Dormabin road in Krachi East Municipality, Oti Region.

The accident occurred on Friday as the students were returning from the Adokwanta Municipal Inter-Circuit Games competition.

Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that the cargo truck, which was carrying the students, collided with the private vehicle. The private car was subsequently hit from behind by a Municipal Assembly Nissan pick-up with registration number PV 380-18, which was transporting chairs for a commissioning event at Asukawkaw.

The injured students were rushed to the Dormabin Health Facility and the Tokuroano Clinic, while those in critical condition were referred to the Worawora Government Hospital for further treatment.

The use of a cargo truck to transport the students after the games has sparked controversy in the municipality, despite the availability of school buses.

Some residents who spoke to GNA accused sports authorities of failing to arrange safer transportation, citing the availability of buses belonging to Dambai College of Education (DACE), Oti Senior High Technical (OSTECH), Yabram Community Day Senior High School (YACOSH), and Asukawkaw Senior High School (ASUSEC).

Police at the Tokuroano Station confirmed the incident to GNA and said preparations were underway to invite personnel from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to conduct tests on the vehicles involved.

Foster Adom, Assembly Member for the Dormabin Electoral Area, called for a thorough investigation into why a cargo truck was used to transport the students. He explained that funds allocated for sports activities could have been used to secure safer transportation and demanded accountability from the municipal sports authorities.
