Two suspects are in police custody for allegedly beating a 32-year-old man, identified only as Baba, to death at Lamakara, a suburb of Tamale.

The dispute reportedly centred on a GH₵25 debt for tramadol.

The victim had visited a local “ghetto” to purchase the drug on credit, promising to pay at a later date.

However, the peddler, Abubakar Mohammed, refused the request, insisting on immediate payment and noting that Baba already owed him money from previous purchases.

According to Prince Kwame Tamakloe, reporting for Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the situation escalated when Baba attempted to leave.

He requested to go home and return with the money, but Mohammed and his brother intervened.

The confrontation turned violent, and the two brothers allegedly assaulted Baba severely. The victim reportedly suffered a fractured collarbone during the beating.

Mohammed and his brother later transported Baba to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Following his death, the suspects allegedly attempted to dump Baba’s body in a gutter near an uncompleted building.

Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended Mohammed and his brother. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to the assault but claimed they acted out of anger and had no intention of killing him.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged attempt to dispose of the body.
