Resident Pastor of Revival Outreach Church, Prof Amartey Resident Pastor of Revival Outreach Church, Prof Amartey

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, has revealed that he sensed his pastoral calling as early as age six, although he never envisioned leading a church.

Speaking to MzGee on Behind The Pulpit, Prof Amartey shared details of his journey into ministry and how prophecies about his calling surrounded his childhood.

“People had said it, they may call it prophecy, but interestingly, when I was six years old, they gathered all of us at home and asked what we wanted to become. I said I wanted to be a pastor,” he recounted.

According to him, family members began calling him “Pastor” while he was growing up. However, he admitted that at the time, he did not fully grasp the spiritual weight of that declaration despite the numerous prophecies.

On whether he attended Bible school to prepare for ministry, Prof Amartey explained that his church provided structured spiritual training.

“Revival Outreach Church itself is a pastoral school because there is constant training. Every Friday, we go to the Apostle’s house for training. The church is centered on Bible study, prayer, fellowship, soul-winning, and character formation, so it is a Bible school in itself,” he said.

The Resident Pastor of Revival Outreach Church, Prof Amartey also revealed that he initially hesitated when he was to be ordained as head pastor — a decision that came during his tenure as Vice Chancellor of UPSA.

“That was the point I hesitated because I did not think I wanted to head a church. I felt I was fine helping in the background as an assistant pastor and doing the work,” he disclosed.
