The Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has criticised the government for failing to brief Parliament on the reduction of the producer price of cocoa to GH¢2,587 per bag for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, he stated,“It is interesting and very revealing that when you were doing the haircut, you didn’t remember that there was a House of Parliament.

Cocoa farmers demand legal framework to protect industry from political interference

“The haircut, the poor cocoa farmer, you didn’t consider it important to come to this house. Suddenly you find it prudent to come to this house. When farmers were crying, our cocoa farmers were crying, you were busily in your office doing engaging haircuts. That way you didn’t find it important to come to this House and make a statement.”

Annoh-Dompreh urged the finance minister to show accountability.

“We are tired of the haircuts. He was busily in his office engaging in haircuts enterprise, reducing the price of cocoa anyhow. And now you find your way to Parliament”, he stated.

At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Dr Ato Forson announced that the cocoa price adjustment was necessary to align with current international market conditions while safeguarding farmers’ incomes as much as possible.

He noted that the 2025/2026 cocoa season, which began in August 2025, initially set the producer price at GH¢51,660 per tonne.
