GCB Bank expands Ramadan outreach across Ghana

GCB Bank PLC has stepped up its nationwide Ramadan outreach, extending donations and high-level engagement to Muslim communities across several regions in what it describes as a reaffirmation of its national character and faith-based community support.

The initiative saw the Bank’s Managing Director, Mr Farihan Alhassan, lead a delegation of members of the Executive Management Committee and staff to pay a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, at his residence in Fadama, Accra. The visit, held as part of this year’s Ramadan observance, underscored what the Bank portrays as a longstanding relationship with the Muslim community and respect for religious leadership in Ghana.

Beyond presenting items and cash donations, the delegation sought prayers and counsel for the institution and the country during the holy month. Bank officials said the gesture reflects a tradition of solidarity with faith communities at significant moments in the religious calendar.

The outreach extended well beyond the capital. In the Northern and Savannah regions, GCB provided support to Muslim communities in Tamale, Yendi, Mio and Damango. Beneficiary mosques included the Tamale Central Mosque, Ambariyya Mosque, Sheikh Lucman Bamba Mosque and Sheikh Abu Dijaana Mosque.

The donations comprised essential Ramadan supplies such as sugar, milk, Milo, cooking oil and cash contributions to support Iftar and related religious activities. According to the Bank, the items are intended to ease the burden on mosque leaders while also supporting vulnerable members of the community during a period marked by fasting, reflection and charity.

Addressing community leaders during the engagements, Mr Alhassan stressed that the Bank’s Ramadan support is rooted in a sustained commitment rather than symbolic philanthropy. He noted that the outreach forms part of a longstanding national tradition of standing with communities during major religious and cultural observances, adding that it reflects values of unity, renewal and peaceful coexistence that resonate with both Ramadan and Ghana’s wider social fabric.

In response, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu expressed appreciation for the Bank’s continued support, acknowledging the impact of such contributions on mosque leadership and disadvantaged members of the Muslim community. He offered prayers for the Board, Management and staff of the Bank, asking for sustained growth, wisdom and prosperity.

Similarly, the Northern Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Ahmed Abdul-Salam, commended the Bank’s presence across the region, observing that the donations would significantly assist community coordination and welfare efforts during Ramadan.

Through the expanded outreach, GCB Bank has positioned its Ramadan support not only as corporate social responsibility but also as an expression of national cohesion and shared prosperity, reinforcing its footprint across communities from the capital to the northern belt.
